Dani King Blog: My Other Passion

I’ve just finished one of the most fun stage races I’ve ever ridden. The tour of California consisted of 2 road stages, a TTT and finished off with a fast and furious crit in the city of Sacremento. I ended up 11th on GC which I was really happy about being my best result in a World Tour race. Since the tour I’ve been staying back in Oakland (San Fransisco) where i have been hosted by such a kind, fun family. I must also say a special thank you to them for having me before and after the tour, treating me as there own and welcoming me into their family – thank you Cherie, Dan, Page and Johnnie!

I’ve decided to dedicate this months blog to my other passion – my coaching company- Rowe & King, run by myself, my Fiance Matt Rowe, his brother and Team Sky rider Luke Rowe and their father (my father in law to be) Courtney Rowe who has years of experience in the coaching world.

The reason we started the company was due to a collective passion for cycling and trying to help people achieve there potential. We cater for everyone whether that be a young person with an Olympic dream or someone who has entered there first sportive or simply wants to get fit and loose weight.

Whilst staying in San Fransisco I’ve been able to put my coaching into practise by helping a 20 year old girl called Page who is a member of the host family I’ve been staying with. Ive realised even more how much I love to give back and use my experience to help people with ambition to better themselves as a bike rider. I sat down with Page and went through her aims and ambitions before putting a realistic training program together for her to follow. She’s found having a plan and structure around her training has really helped her motivation.

As a professional bike rider i take for granted the benefit of having a coach and a day to day plan that is tailored around my short term, long term and ultimate dream goals. Rowe & King use the extensive experience that both myself and Luke Rowe have acquired in our careers and use the same methods that have helped us rise to the very top of our sport.

The next part of my journey is Philadelphia World Tour on Sunday and then its back to the UK where I hope the sun is shining. Im looking forward to catching up with friends and family after 5 weeks on the road.
