These past couple of weeks have been a great success for women’s cycling. Having two very big races. La Course and Ride London being just a week a part from each other and both being broadcasted live on TV.
I raced La Course last year and it didn’t end very well for me. The rain was pouring down and the roads became very slippery. I actually ended up after around 1 hour of the race pulling out after having 3 nasty crashes… I was hoping this year would be better. The weather was better at least however I didn’t have that much luck. My chain came off and got jammed so I waited for the team car. Got back on however the team car was called up so had to leave me and that was pretty much game over as it was impossible for me to get back to the peloton alone.
My race wasn’t a success for me but I was extremely happy for my teammate Chloe taking the win for Wiggle High5. She won by miles in the sprint and showed how strong she was!
Ride London was very special for me because I can go back home and race as my parents are watching me. It made it even more special that I was racing with my sister, Grace.
The race was very fast and hectic. It was mostly all strung out so we all needed to stay at the front as much as possible. There were a lot of attack going but nothing stuck. We wanted a bunch sprint as Chloe was up for getting the win and we really wanted to try and help her with that. The last lap was very fast and with all the corners you had to be well positioned. Unfortunately we weren’t able to help Chloe as much as we wanted but we did work well as a team. The support was incredible the whole way around the circuit and I look forward to racing next year!
My next race is Route de France. A long stage race. Looking forward to being back with the Wiggle High5 team and racing again.
