Lucy Garner Blog: The European Season Starts Here!

By Lucy Garner

It’s my first season with Wiggle High5 and it was great to start the season off in Australia. It was a couple of months ago now, but it was a good race for me to start the 2016 season and to make some hours on the bike training with the girls. We already had some nice results with Nettie claiming a win and Dani doing extremely well overall and in the mountain classification.

The weeks flew by and it was already time to start the European racing off and my first race was Omloop van het Hageland. I was very curious/nervous to see how I would perform, as I know this race can be tough especially when there is a lot of wind.

I felt good throughout the whole of the race and was pleased I could help the girls out where needed. Unfortunately there was no result for us there but as a team we are all individually in good shape and its just some small things we need to work on. So for me I was happy with how the season started.

Next on the list was the Le Samyn. Personally I was very disappointed with how I rode. I was turning a lot in the side wind to help form a smaller group but as we turned into another direction I couldn’t hold the pace and dropped just 300m before the side wind stopped. I then finished in the main peloton. However, looking at positives I was happy with how I rode on the cobbles and for Emma racing second and Amy racing third. It’s nice to be apart of such a strong and consistent team.

Overall I am happy with how my winter went, it was definitely my best yet. And of course its great to be back in the bunch racing weekly aiming for the best result we can get as a team.

Next up for me is Drenthe Acht this weekend! Lets get racing! ?
