Brazil: Olympic Dreams and Sisters’ Rendezvous

Brazil. Rio de Janeiro. 2016 Olympic Games. It has been all about the Olympic Games for me. After missing out on getting into medicine at University in July, 2010, I desperately wanted to make the Olympic Games. Two years later, I made it to London. I raced hard and came away with a bronze medal. This was great, but it left me wanting more. I therefore set my sights on the following cycle, which was to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. It was a long way off, but I chipped away, focussing on each Track World Championships and European road...

Nettie Edmondson Blog: One Step Closer

Our time in Rockhampton is coming to an end. Six athletes, two coaches, a soigneur, a sports scientist and a gym coach on one Quest hotel floor for 27 days. Of those 27 days, just one was subject to rain, and that happened to be on our day off. That’s why we came to Rockhampton; it’s the middle of winter in Australia, yet we have had near-perfect weather, ranging in the low to mid twenties for over three weeks. That’s meant we’ve been able to put our heads down and get on with our training. Other than a few gym sessions a week, we’ve been...

Nettie Edmondson Blog: Nettie’s Top Tips for Ultimate Recovery

When pondering ideas for my monthly blog, I couldn’t quite hear my thoughts over the throbbing in my legs after yet another solid day of training. Have a look and see what you think:...

Nettie Edmondson Blog: The Pride of being an Olympian

I still remember the day our coach, Gary Sutton sat my track teammates, Josie Tomic, Melissa Hoskins and Amy Cure and I down the day before the 2012 Olympic Cycling Team was to be announced. We were on camp in Holland, sitting on the lounge in the corner of Sutto’s cabin. He said, “Tomorrow, you will be named an Olympian. You will become part of an elite club for the rest of your life. This is something that no one can ever take away from you.” Those words gave me goosebumps, and they still do today. On Saturday night I was invited to attend...

Nettie Edmondson Blog: 107 Days to Go

107 days to go. We’re almost in double digits. It’s hard to believe that four years of preparation has almost come to an end. It has been an eventful four years to say the least. I’ve competed in four Track World Championships, three Road World Championships and a Commonwealth Games. I’ve had 9 breaks spent in Australia, Spain, Indonesia, Scotland, Norway, New Zealand and America. I’ve seen teammates retire and new girls push their way into the system. I’ve experienced highs in winning World Championship titles, and heartbreak, missing team...
