Mayuko Hagiwara was born on the 16th October 1986 in Gunma, Japan. She has also represented Japan at the 2012 Summer Olympics and multiple times at the World Championships.
Over the past three seasons Mayuko had her ups and downs but after she adapted to the European way of racing Hagiwara has become an invaluable member of the team.
2015 was Hagiwara’s breakthrough season with podiums in Gooik-Geraardsbergen-Gooik and the GP Plumelec early on in the season but her real breakthrough came in the Giro Rosa were Mayuko won the first ever stage for Japan in the most important stage race for women. A win everyone within the team and the cycling community was happy about. Next to that she won a stage in the Tour de Bretagne and just like in 2014 Hagiwara won the road race at the Japanese National Championships, her 11th national title.
A crash in the La Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta in which she broke her collarbone ruined her chances for a good result at the World Championships in Richmond, Virginia.
