Lucy Garner Blog: Paris and London

These past couple of weeks have been a great success for women’s cycling. Having two very big races. La Course and Ride London being just a week a part from each other and both being broadcasted live on TV. I raced La Course last year and it didn’t end very well for me. The rain was pouring down and the roads became very slippery. I actually ended up after around 1 hour of the race pulling out after having 3 nasty crashes… I was hoping this year would be better. The weather was better at least however I didn’t have that much luck. My chain...

Lucy Garner Blog: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

After 13 years of competitive racing, I have finally had a crash, which left me in hospital with broken bones… 2 broken ribs in fact. I guess some people would say I’m pretty lucky, believe me, I’ve definitely had my fair share of crashes but nothing to serious. And although ribs are very painful, and yes, I have had to sneeze… OUCH. I am still able to ride my bike and it isn’t very ‘serious’. It’s always hard as an athlete coming to terms with an injury. A beautiful hotel in the middle of York. A city, which I would love to explore in my off-season. It looked amazing! I wasn’t actually feeling well at all so I arrived and had a room on my own. It’s only normal that when you are a professional athlete and not feeling 100% that you room on your own to recover and most importantly not spread germs onto your fellow team mates!!...

Lucy Garner Blog: Part of a Winning Team

We are well underway with the season and I have just competed in my first European stage race. Before competing in Holland at the Energiewacht tour I competed in GP Dottignies, it was a fast and aggressive race and as a team we worked amazingly together by following attacks and protecting our sprinter Giorgia. I was happy that I could position Chloe and Giorgia coming into the final kms and seeing Giorgia cross the line with her hands up in the air was really special. It brought a lot of confidence for the team! Knowing I had a stage race...

Lucy Garner Blog: The European Season Starts Here!

By Lucy Garner It’s my first season with Wiggle High5 and it was great to start the season off in Australia. It was a couple of months ago now, but it was a good race for me to start the 2016 season and to make some hours on the bike training with the girls. We already had some nice results with Nettie claiming a win and Dani doing extremely well overall and in the mountain classification. The weeks flew by and it was already time to start the European racing off and my first race was Omloop van het Hageland. I was very curious/nervous to see...
