Rider Bio:
Annette Edmondson was born on the 12 December, 1991 in Bedford Park, Australia. “Nettie” is an Australian cyclist who races on both the track, and on the road. Edmondson started cycling at the age of 13 after the South Australian Sports Institute tested students at her primary school and identified her as having the physical attributes to have a potential career in cycling. Despite already participating in three soccer teams, playing volleyball, basketball, athletics and swimming Edmondson decided to gave cycling a go. A sport she is still enjoying despite a short break from cycling in 2010.
The 22 year old is a part of the new generation of Australian athletes who are rising to the top of women’s cycling, together with the likes of Tiffany Cromwell, Chloe Hosking, Melissa Hoskins and Gracie Elvin. Despite lots of national track titles in various events her biggest results to date are achieved on the track with two gold medals at the 2015 World Track Championships in France, a bronze medal in the Omnium event at the 2012 London Olympics and the Gold medal in the scratch at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
On the road she won the 2013 Tour of Chongming Island and the prestigious stage in the Lotto Belgium Tour in Geraardsbergen, she also won a silver medal in the Team Time Trial with Orica-AIS at the 2014 World Championships in Ponferrada, Spain. Last season Nettie won the Omnium and the Team Pursuit at the 2015 Track World Championships and was part of the Team Time Trial team that finished just outside the podium (4th) at the World Championships in Richmond, Virginia. In the Route de France she managed to sprint to two second places behind Lucy Garner and compatriot Loren Rowney in respectively stage 1 and 4.
Nettie’s all-round talent on different type of terrains coupled with her selfless devotion to her teammates makes her an indispensable member of the team.
