Laura Trott wins Great Britain National Individual Pursuit Championship

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s double Olympic champion Laura Trott has taken her first ever national title in the Individual Pursuit, defeating black and orange teammate Dani King in the final. Trott completed the 3000 metre, 12-lap race in a time of 3 minutes, 34.973 seconds, almost eight seconds faster than King, who had been part of Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s team time trial squad at the Florence World Championships on Sunday.

“Laura did a really good ride, and she backed up well as well,” said King afterwards.“I just didn’t really get on top of it, so it was a bit disappointing. But it’s a silver medal so I can’t really complain too much, as I was riding the Worlds team time trial on Sunday.

“That obviously wasn’t great preparation for this, but I really wanted to ride the team time trial for the rest of the girls in the team,” she explained. “Then I’m just training through the track nationals in preparation for Europeans and then the World Cups through the season.

“I’m just trying to focus on each race as it comes. I think I’ve got ten races in five days, so it’s a pretty tough week!”

Qualification saw Trott put in the fastest time of 3:35.746, with King second with 3:38.600 to set up a gold medal match between the two teammates. Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Elinor Barker was fourth fastest with 3:41.085, but sadly missed out on the bronze medal after a narrow defeat to City of Edinburgh’s Katie Archibald.

“It was a couple of seconds I think, but it would have been nice to get us all on the podium,” said King.
