Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling is proud and excited to announce the signing of Australian Peta Mullens for 2014. The 25-year-old from Bendigo, Victoria, has taken five Australian national titles in Mountain Running, Track Cycling, Road Cycling, and Marathon and Cross Country Mountainbiking. Having ridden in Europe for the Australian Institute of Sport team in the 2008 season, she is looking forward to taking her first steps into the women’s professional peloton.
“I’m excited to be joining the Wiggle Honda team for the 2014 season,” Mullens said. “To come on board with such a successful outfit in my first year is a privilege and I hope that I can bring some good legs and a new personality into an already amazing team.
“I have worked with [team manager Rochelle Gilmore] before and know that her professionalism and athlete support are unrivalled and I value that.”
Mullens’ role within the Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling team will be as a supporter for the other riders, with her fast turn of pace used as a final lead out for former two-time World champion Giorgia Bronzini, who took an incredible 17 wins in 2013.
Continuing to focus on mountainbiking, however, Mullens’ big personal targets will be the defence of her Australian national cross country title, as well as the Commonwealth Games, in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 29th.
“I’m really eager to meet the line-up of girls this year and will probably be a little star-struck at first,” Mullens laughed. “But I only see good things ahead for the team this season and I’m thrilled to be a part of their winning ways.
“I am motivated and determined to embark on this journey and write another chapter of my life, and I thank Wiggle Honda for allowing me to juggle my dual ambitions.”
With the vast majority of Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s 2013 roster staying together, team manager Rochelle Gilmore has no doubt that Mullens will fit into the group very well.
“Peta is one of the fastest lead-outs in the World so I was super excited when I heard she was interested in joining Wiggle Honda,” said Gilmore. “As a team manager you need to sometimes give some thought to adding a new rider into a near perfect mix, I didn’t hesitate when I got the opportunity to sign her.
“Peta is fit, fast, energetic and a generally very happy bubbly person, she will fit in perfectly at Wiggle Honda.”
