Wiggle Honda riders shatter Team Pursuit record in Mexico Track World Cup

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Elinor Barker, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell, along with City of Edinburgh’s Katie Archibald smashed their own World record in the four kilometre Team Pursuit at the second round of the 2013/14 Track World Cup in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Riding for the Great Britain national team, the four riders completed the event in a time of four minutes, 16.552 seconds, to beat Canada by more than six and a half seconds and go more than three seconds quicker than the mark they set in Manchester in November.

The British team was pushed close by the Canadians in the morning’s qualification, as they set a time of four minutes, 19.115 seconds, which broke the World record by almost half a second. Canada was just over half a second slower, and just outside Great Britain’s Manchester time.

Barker, King, Rowsell and Archibald had clearly saved something for the evening’s final round, however, finding an extra two and a half seconds as they set a blistering average speed of 56.128kph, while Canada faded a little.

Laura Trott, Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s double Olympic champion took part in the women’s Points Race, as a warm up for the Omnium that starts tomorrow, and finished the race in eleventh.
