Giorgia Bronzini takes second place in final Tour of Qatar stage bunch sprint

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Giorgia Bronzini sprinted into second place at the end of the fourth and final stage of the Ladies’ Tour of Qatar, between the Sealine Beach Resort and the Doha Corniche, after a perfect team performance from the black and orange team. The former two-time road World Champion was the only rider able to follow the acceleration of race leader Kirsten Wild (Liv-Shimano), as she launched her sprint in the final 200 metres of the 85km stage, but was just unable to come past the big, powerful Dutchwoman on the line. The...

Giorgia Bronzini denied by late mechanical in Tour of Qatar stage three

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Giorgia Bronzini was denied the chance to compete for victory in the third stage of the Ladies’ Tour of Qatar, between the Katara Cultural Village and the Al Khor Corniche, by a late mechanical problem that saw her lose contact with the front group. The former two-time road was part of a 28-strong lead group with teammate Charlotte Becker, in similar circumstances to stage two, when she experienced her problem and lost contact. “I must have hit a hole or something in the road, because my lever hood moved down and a...

Charlotte Becker takes third place in Qatar stage two breakaway

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Charlotte Becker sprinted to third place at the end of the second stage of the 2014 Ladies Tour of Qatar, between Al Zubara and Madinat Al Shamal, as part of a four-rider breakaway. The quartet escaped from a much larger, 21-strong group in the last of four 13.5km finishing circuits but, having worked hard for much of the 112.5km, Becker was unable to challenge Amy Pieters (Liv-Shimano) at the finish, and was narrowly beaten into third by Anna van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv). Giorgia Bronzini, Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s...

A hard days work in the wind for Wiggle Honda in Tour of Qatar stage one

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling endured a tough day in the wind in the opening stage of the 2014 Ladies’ Tour of Qatar, between Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art and the town of Mesaieed, as a 20-strong group of riders escaped to contest the victory. Midway through the flat, 97km stage, as the course turned 90 degrees, the peloton split into several pieces, with the black and orange team just missing out. Defending champion Kirsten Wild (Liv-Shimano) won the stage, ahead of Shelley Olds (Alé-Cipollini) and Chloe Hosking (Hitec Products). Wiggle Honda Pro...

Giorgia Bronzini carrying Bay Crits form into the Ladies’ Tour of Qatar

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling is looking to capitalise on recent successes in Australia as the UCI Elite Women’s season begins with the Ladies Tour of Qatar on Tuesday. Former two-time road World Champion Giorgia Bronzini dominated January’s Mitchelton Bay Classic – the Bay Crits – and hopes to use that sprinting form to take her fourth stage victory in the desert race. Bronzini also finished second overall in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the Tour of Qatar and, with time bonuses available at stage finishes and intermediate sprints,...

Continuity and strength for Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling in 2014 team roster

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling returns for its second season in the UCI Elite Women’s peloton with very few changes to what was a winning formula in 2013. The black and orange team will once again be led by former two-time road World Champion Giorgia Bronzini, who took an incredible 17 victories last year, but is packed with strength and power in all areas with results coming from all riders. “We have 13 out of 14 riders from last year staying on in 2014, which is almost unheard of in women’s cycling,” said Wiggle Honda team manager Rochelle...

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Linda Villumsen came away with two Silver Medals from the New Zealand National Road Championships in Christchurch, South Island, this weekend. The Danish-born 28-year-old was narrowly beaten in Saturday’s Road Race by 2010 champion Rushlee Buchanan (UnitedHealthcare), having finished just 28 seconds slower than Jaime Nielsen (Waikato BoP) in Friday’s Time Trial. Villumsen completed the flat, 25km, out and back Time Trial course in a time of 34 minutes 56 seconds in the deceptively windy conditions, but was just...

Peta Mullens wins Silver in the Australian Critérium Championships

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Peta Mullens won the Silver Medal in the Australian National Criterium Championships in a close sprint at the end of the 33km race in downtown Ballarat, Victoria.  The 25-year-old Victorian was just pipped on the line by New South Wales’ Sarah Roy (Vienne Futuroscope), with former Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling rider Lauren Kitchen (Hitec Products) taking third. The 52-minute race, on Ballarat’s Sturt Street, saw a number of crashes that took out a number of the peloton’s big names, as Mullens explained afterwards....
